Kaiser State Health Data
The Kaiser Family Foundation has a new internet resource that offers
comprehensive and current health information for all 50 states, the
District of Columbia and US Territories at:
www.statehealthfacts.kff.org. Data can be ranked across
all 50 states and compared to the US total. Great tables and
color-coded maps! The site offers health policy information on a
broad range of issues such as managed care, health insurance
coverage, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.
http://www.economy.com/freelunch/. This
free site, run by the commercial site,
www.economy.com, has *LOADS* of
free data series, most for the entire US, some by State, and less by
subState areas.
For example, under price indexes, one finds the CPI national monthly
series from 1967 to present for all products, alcohol, and tobacco
(among dozens). A quick download of the three to excel, followed by
maybe differencing them, and voila!, a graphic presentation of how
consumer tobacco prices have skyrocketed, compared to alcohol and
all products.
GIS-related DATA
GIS-related Data (geographic information systems). UC - Berkeley has
developed a rich resource for GIS* (geographic information systems)
information. From their site you can find just about anything you
want, including GIS-related data sets, and software, such as mapping
programs (both commercial and free). It is a great site to keep as a
first level resource on the subject.

Data Mining
vivisimo.com/. Data mining, is the phrase for the
overarching process of extracting orderly information from large
amounts of data. A number of methods are used to suit different
purposes, including "clustering." Clustering is one of the
tools used in the process of mining data. Clusters are sets of data
more like each other than like data not in the sets. You can
now do a cluster analysis of huge search engines like
www.google.com. It is remarkably
powerful and more important, TIME SAVING!
Image Search Engine
For those who haven't already discovered
it, Google now has up and running a new image search tool, "Google
Image Search.BETA". This works reasonable well at:
